Apis: Bites, Stings, Burns & Anaphylaxis

A remedy of redness, swelling & stinging

Apis, made from bee venom is a wonderful remedy for all kinds of conditions. If you've ever been stung by a bee you'll have an idea of the typical symptoms that accompany apis-like complaints: redness, burning or stinging pain, swelling, relief with cold compresses.
However, Apis has a lot more applications than just use after a bee sting! In fact, it is a great remedy for anaphylaxis (not to replace your epi-pen!). It can help your body's immune system respond to the anaphylactic symptoms and decrease the intensity of the symptoms.

Indications :
  • Bee or insect stings!
  • Urticaria or hives - better with cold
  • Edema (or swelling): pitting edema, especially of the eyes, hands or feet that is so 'tense' it seems the skin will burst
  • Burns - stinging pain, swelling, redness and better with cold (compare cantharis)
  • Pain - burning or stinging pains that move around from one location to another
  • Hydrocele - swelling in the scrotum that is often common in newborns
  • Right sided ovarian cysts that sting, burn,
  • Menstrual problems (endometriosis, severely painful periods) in women who are very busy/active, strongly family-oriented, prone to jealousy, easily irritated, task-oriented, very straightforward and direct. They are often thirstless & heat makes them feel worse
  • Menopausal flushes of heat (see above note re: personality type)
  • Pharyngitis that is worse with heat and may present with a bag-like appearance of the uvula
  • Cystitis (bladder infection) with burning pains
  • Inflamed joints - red, hot, swollen - better with cold and worsen with heat

Dosage & Repetition:
Dosage: 6C, 30C or 200C
For acute complaints give a low potency (6C or 30C) as frequently as required. As usual, as symptoms improve decrease dosing frequency. If symptoms do not improve after 3 doses another remedy is probably required.
